Blue Tongue Skink

Maize joined our family at the end of January 2022. He is believed to be about six months old. Blue-tongued skinks originate in Australia and some species can be found in Indonesia. They are often referred to as blueys in Australia. The most prominent characteristic is having a large blue tongue which can potentially ward off enemies. Depending on what predator or threat is near will determine the intensity color present in the tongue. The tongue can also produce a thick mucus used to catch prey.
